Combating anti-LGBTQ+ policy starts in the polls and your vote matters! At every level of governance, your voice is important, and the decisions you make on Election Day can have real impact on our community.
Below you will find important voter information, including election deadlines, resources for absentee and early voting, and more. In the coming months, we will also add a link to the first AFFA Action Voter Scorecard that scores sitting legislators based on how they voted for anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
AFFA will not tell you how to vote, but we hope our resources can help you make informed decisions.

Important Election Dates in SC
- October 6 – Deadline to register by online, email, or fax for General Election
- October 7 – Deadline to register to vote by mail for General Election
- Monday, October 21 – Saturday, November 2 – Early Voting
- November 5 – General Election Day – 7:00am to 7:00pm
Voter Registration Information
Register to Vote
To vote, you must register to vote at least 30 days before the election you would like to vote in. There are several requirements you must meet in order to qualify for voter registration. Learn more about voter registration guidelines here.
Updating voter registration information
If your name or address has changed, it’s important that you update your voter registration information. If you have moved but still live in the same county, you can update your voter registration information only after updating your information at the DMV. If you have moved to a different county, you must re-register to vote entirely. Learn more about updating your voter registration information here.
Voting Methods
In-Person Voting
Polls are open from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Find your polling place here! You must bring a valid ID (SC Driver’s License, SC DMV ID Card, SC Voter Registration Card with Photo, Federal Military ID, or US Passport) to your polling place in order to vote. Remember: If you are in line to vote by 7:00pm, you are allowed to vote!
